The intense final of race
experimented in the Baja Spain ended with the triomph of national pilot Nani
Roma in cars. With this, he repeats the same result he already got in 2005 and
equals Esteve´s records of six victories in Baja. The one that, until today, seemed to were going to get the victory, his team fellow partner Stéphane Peterhansel, suffered problems in his car´s brakes at the end of fisrt stage and, even if he run really fast on the second, he couldn´t get back the seconds he spent against Roma. The three BMW X-Raid worked perfectly in this Baja (except from this little issue and the one of Chicherit) and Portuguese Filipe Campos completed their success reaching the third step of the podium. Behind them, fourth scratch position was for surprising French Misslin, from JMB Racing and fifth was Van Deijne, who alo repeats last year´s result. Sixth Sousa, seventh Zapletal, eigth Schlesser, nineth Traglio and tenth Moniz Maia. Best spanish after Roma, Francesc Termens, winner of T2 category. Most of the abandons were caused by the really high temperatures and the heat and also by the absence of wind, that made the tracks be full of dust suspended. Between them on first stage: Russians Mironenko and Solovyev, Pińón (Andinas Racing), Lardon (technical failure), Chillida (technical failure), J. De Dios (little accident), Fast, Van Loon, Belloso, Grasa, Sánchez and Gameiro. Historic aragonese pilot from Suzuki Colás Motor, Vicente Colás, abandoned too and he goes home, one more time, without being able to finish. On second stage:José María Hernández and Rafael Martínez. On bikes, the fight between Farrés and Viladoms to get to the top ended with Farrés taking home the triomph. KTM´s driver dominated the Baja from the beginning to the end, showing that he is not afraid of having around high level pilots such as Casteu, Toral, or his team fellow partner, Jordi Viladoms. After KTM´s drivers, Juan Pedrero, a big surprise because he comes from Enduro and this was his first Baja. One step behind from podium, fourth, Marc Guasch,and fifth Rubén Faria, who was however penalized with a minute. In quads, Xavi Montero couldn´t validate last´s year victory and he left place to Óscar Romero. With his new brand Polaris and even though he had some issues yesterday, Alava´s driver could finally get to the end and get his first podium in six participations. Abandons firs stage bikes: Portolés, Joao Rosa, Asensio, García. From first day, everything went perfectly. I have been lucky. I made a very high rythm, but honestly I wasn´t alwasy sure I was going to get to the end. I´m very happy, because my other victory here was due to penalizations to precednt pilots and now I won running”. VILADOMS: “This was my best Baja. I´m happy about how everything went. The only problem was that Gerard (Farrés) was faster. Let´s see if next year we can face him”. PEDRERO: “I didn´t expected this result in my first Baja, not at all. The best wer the huge number of fans and the high quality of Aragon´s tracks”. ROMA: “Both Peterhansel and I were very fast, but I was the lucky one. Battle between us was amazing and funny. It was a big pleasure to fight against such high level pilots and I´m very pleased I finally got over them. PETERHANSEL: “Eventhough we didn´t win, we tested the car and we already know which small details we have to improve. It has been a very well organized race and with very competitive tracks.” CAMPOS: “I love Baja´s tracks. It is a very fast race, very technical. I am very satisfied and I expect to come back next year. I have to congratulate the organization for signals on tracks, which improved a lot since last year".
