DECISION OF THE INTERNATIONAL COURT OF APPEAL

The International Court of Appeal met in Paris on Tuesday, October 7, 2003, in order to examine
the appeal brought forth by the Federaçao Portuguesa de Automobilismo e Karting and the
Automobile Club de Monaco against the Steward's decision of August 16, 2003 further to an
objection raised against car n° 201 (JL Schlesser/JM Lurquin) during the Rally d'Orient run in
Cappadocia (Turkey) 10-16 August, 2003, and counting towards the 2003 FIA World Cup for
Cross-Country Rallies.
Having heard the explanations of the parties and examined the various documents and other
evidence, the Court annuled the decision of the Stewards and excluded the car n° 201
(Schlesser/JM Lurquin) from this event.
The International Court of Appeal was presided over by Mr. Vassilis Koussis (Greece), and
composed of Mr. Xavier Conessa (Spain), Mr. Michael Limb (Great Britain), and Mr. Reginald
Redmond (Ireland).
The full text of the International Court of Appeal's decision is available, on request, from the
secretariat of the FIA International Court of Appeal in Paris.

From August 9th till August 16th
CAPPADOCIA 2003 SUCCEED TO THE MASTER RALLYE

The traditional August Off Road Rally meeting organised by René Metge, will bring the competitors to Turkey, in the heart of the splendours of Capadoccia.

A SELECTIVE COURSE, UNIQUE SCENERIES…THE RALLYE D’ORIENT -
This year the rally has a shorter format, 1 week around a central point, in this region famous for its original relief, its fairy chimney and troglodytes houses. The varied land will draw very selective stages some of which are already known from the preceding years, 1999, 2000 and 2001 when the rally already passed trough Turkey.

Since the first Paris Pekin in 1992, the human aspect, the different and friendly approach of the competition has built the notoriety and the reputation of René Metge’s rallies. Meeting with the population, discovery and respect of the culture and the history of the country which welcomes the rally are all the principles which lead the organisation of his events. In 2003, with a new name Rallye d’Orient the adventure goes on….

A DIFFERENT ASPECT OF TURKEY BY RENE METGE
AUGUST 10th – 16th, 2003-

The inevitable summer meeting arranged by Rene Metge will lead the competitors to the heart of Turkey, precisely to Cappadocia, the magic land where “fairy chimneys” and other troglodyte splendours will be the daily setting for this 6th round in the F.I.A. World Cup calendar and F.I.M. all terrain 2003 World Championship.
From August 10th to 16th, the tenors in this discipline will challenge in a race lead out in the shape of a “6 leaves clover” around Urgüp during 450 to 500 kms laps including 300 km selective bouts.
The competitors will be welcomed in a 4* Luxury Hotel every evening as also the staff, the press and all the assistance vehicles.
“Fundamental choices had to be made due to critical world events in the course of the past year “ Rene Metge explains “and I have been even more cautious as to the destination. We have been obliged to reduce considerably the cost of organization in order to offer attractive registration fees. I think I managed successfully for this 2003 edition entirely settled in a unique country Turkey, with its superb tracks for car rallying. Remember the success of the last W.R.C. Competition!
This 6-day race, set in this fantastic place named Cappadocia will provide a great variety of sensations due to the diversity of landscapes at each stage. I wish to underline the great help and implication provided by the TOMSFED, Turkish car federation and his president whose precious support and welcome made the whole Rally possible.”

New this year, the Prologue in the city of Urgüp, retransmitted directly by Turkish T.V.Channel and for 2 hours , via RMC Sports, 12 to 14 hours direct from the site, not forgetting Eurosport International which will broadcast a 12 mn. daily summary of this FIA/FIM World Championship Competition. To be mentioned, choice will be given to the first 10 competitors to decide upon starting time and rank, an assistance spot on each special, a 450 cm3 motorbike amateur challenge which will enable the winner with a free of charge registration on the 2004 edition.
Respecting the pure tradition of Rene Metge rallies, piloting techniques will be as important as ever, on wide open tracks somewhat more frank and direct than in the past however there will still be as much importance accorded to navigation. The course of the race which will be quite easy running will be held mainly on durt track and gravel track while Fairy chimneys and Troglodyte houses will be part of the scenery throughout this new Cappadocia Rally 2003.

The specificity of this rally covering the long week-end of the 15th of August will enable the competitors to share a week holiday with their family and close friends, including time for the competition itsel , farniente, relaxation and sightseeing.
The friendly atmosphere which has made the unfailing reputation of Rene Metge rallies will be renewed this year. Rene’s philosophy and concept which have prevailed over the last ten years will be omnipresent. Great importance will be attached as always to respecting local populations and environment with particular emphasis on traditions and human values _this aspect of the rallies being as usual fundamental in Rene Metge ‘s mind.

Tuesday 12th August :

STAGE 2 –Karagol-Kurukopru :580 km. One of the fastest. All out piloting on large gravel tracks with a first very nice pass to cross. Halfway: a superb part at 2.550 m high. A breathtaking colour display shaped by nature in a dark red valley, some firns appearing and thousands of sheep… You’ll drive on a smoothly curved ground , no ravines or other impressive bluffs here ! A short critical navigation part_ already in the 1999 edition_ will lead you after 10 km towards a very fast ending of this special. * The village school of Metiyet turned into a very pleasant bivouac for Rene Metge and his mates. The lordmayor himself looked after the team and treated them to a lovely meal and night rest. It will be worth it! ** A superb Roman aqueduct to be seen near the finish of this special.
